Black Cube said it stands by its report into Evolution’s alleged activities in prohibited jurisdictions, and claimed to have gathered new evidence, despite a court ruling saying the document ‘lacks veracity’.

In a statement provided to NEXT.io, the Israeli private intelligence agency defended its investigation after its accuracy was questioned by US state regulators and courts.

It comes after NEXT.io broke the news the firm, founded in 2010 by former Israeli intelligence personnel, had been the investigative entity that compiled the report which resulted in $10bn in value being wiped from Evolution’s share price several years ago.

Black Cube’s statement said: “With the lifting of legal restrictions, the period in which Evolution ($EVO) was able to misrepresent facts before the court and relevant authorities has come to a close.

“Black Cube stands firmly behind the contents of the investigative report and is fully prepared to prove its validity and accuracy in court.”

In response to these new allegations, an Evolution spokesperson said: “Black Cube filed a false and defamatory report against Evolution in an effort to harm Evolution’s business.

“Two regulatory bodies and the New Jersey courts have already dismissed it. The New Jersey Supreme Court has ruled that Black Cube cannot hide behind its lawyers and must face ability for its unlawful conduct.

“What Black Cube is trying to do now is to shift focus away from the issue of revealing the name of its client.”

Agency says it will submit new evidence to courts and regulators

While Black Cube did not outline the nature of the new evidence it claims to have gathered against Evolution, it said it intends to submit it to official parties going forward.

NEXT.io has reached out to clarify the nature of the new evidence, when exactly it intends to submit it to the courts and regulators, as well as its response to the New Jersey gaming regulator and Superior Court findings which rejected the report’s claims.

No response to these queries was received by the time NEXT.io went to print.

Black Cube’s statement continued: “In addition to the original findings, Black Cube has since gathered new and material evidence that directly contradicts Evolution’s claims made before regulators and the judiciary.

“This evidence will be submitted in court or to relevant regulators in due course. Beyond Black Cube’s investigation, public domain sources reinforce concerns about Evolution’s (EVO) business practices.

“These include, among others, Class Action lawsuits filed by investors in Pennsylvania and in New York, and most notably, a recent investigation by the UK Gambling Commission.

“Black Cube will not be silenced by attempts to discredit its investigative work. The company remains committed to exposing the truth with concrete evidence and will pursue all necessary legal avenues to ensure that the facts are brought to light.”

Who is Black Cube?

Black Cube is one of several private intelligence agencies founded in the 21st century with ties to Israel’s well-respected intelligence community, including the internationally famous Mossad.

On its website, the agency claims to have secured $14.7bn in court settlements and recovered $5.3bn worth of assets for its clients.

Some notable successes have included uncovering widespread bribery at a Mexican state oil company, revealing false allegations in a mining dispute and working pro bono to crack open a criminal organ trafficking network.

However, these have been paired with more morally dubious operations, including working for Harvey Weinstein to prevent the publication of sexual misconduct allegations.

Other scandals have included Black Cube investigators being arrested for spying on an Romanian anti-corruption head, and reports the business was attempting to gather dirt on Hungarian opposition politicians in the lead up to the 2018 Parliamentary elections.
